ECPR General Conference 2024

LEGITIMULT had its very own panel in Dublin, where four papers were presented. All of them illustrate the empirical work of the LEGITIMULT consortium and contribute to a better understanding of how governance arrangements in multilevel environments can maintain legitimacy.

Arjan Schakel and Bilal Hassan (University of Bergen) presented a coding scheme that measures the decision-making and implementation authority of subnational governments during the Covid-19 crisis and analyzed the extent to which, and under which conditions, the crisis has led to centralization or decentralization.

Edina Szoecsik (University of Fribourg) discussed the establishment, composition, and influence of expert advisory bodies during the Covid-19 crisis.

Susana Coroado (University of Antwerp) investigated the intricate interplay between trust, transparency, and crisis management in multilevel settings.

Finally, Jakob Frateur and colleagues (University of Antwerp) studied the conditions that determine political trust in multilevel governance systems during crises, with a particular focus on how and at which government level(s) the crisis is managed.

More information on each paper can be found on the ECPR’s website.
